GPS tracking

What it is

GPS tracking records the route you travel and links it to a specific task in Redmine. Routes are available to you and your organization in the Routes section.

Turning tracking on

GPS tracking is off by default. To turn it on:

Settings → Tracking → GPS tracking — switch the toggle on.

Starting a session

1. Open the task screen (tap a task in the list).
2. Tap Start.
3. Allow location access if the system asks.
4. A notification with the task name appears in the notification shade.

The session is recording — GPS coordinates are sent to the server in batches.

The notification during tracking

The notification shade shows the active session:

• The task name and project.
• A Stop button — tap it to finish without opening the app.
• A chronometer showing the duration of the current session.

Tapping the notification itself opens the card of the active task.

Stopping a session

From the app:

1. Open the card of the active task.
2. Tap Stop.
3. In the confirmation dialog, you can add a comment to the task.
4. Tap Complete.

From the notification shade — tap Stop in the notification.

Several sessions at once

You can run several sessions in parallel — one per task. Each session is shown as a separate notification.

Parallel session limits

The number of simultaneous sessions is limited by an organization setting:

• Limits are set separately for GPS sessions and timers — from 1 to 3 each. By default: 1 GPS session + 1 timer.
• The counters are independent: running GPS sessions do not use up the timer limit, and vice versa.
• The limit is counted for the organization that the task's connector belongs to.
• When the limit is reached, starting a new session is blocked with a message like "GPS session limit: 1 of 1". The limit applies to everyone — including the organization owner and administrators.

The owner or an administrator can change the limits in the organization settings.

Auto-pause when idle

Auto-pause (off by default) automatically pauses a session if you have not moved for a long time. When you start moving again, the session resumes automatically.

Turn it on: Settings → Tracking → Auto-pause when idle.

Auto-pause is available only with a Redmine connection.

Pausing and resuming manually

A pause is per session: the other parallel sessions keep recording. The pause/resume button is in the session's notification.

In the app settings you can also turn on a pause button next to the timer on the task card and global pause buttons (pause all GPS sessions and/or all timers at once).

My mileage

The My mileage section (a tab in your profile) shows total distances by project for the selected period. The data is available only when you are online.
