Kaiten — connecting

Space address and API key — connecting Kaiten

The Kaiten connector shows cards from your boards and lets you comment, move cards across columns and log time.

How to connect

  1. In the app: Settings → Organizations → organization → Integrations → "+" → Kaiten.
  2. Enter the space address — for example https://mycompany.kaiten.ru.
  3. Enter the API key — you can get it in Kaiten: Profile → API key.
  4. Tap Connect — the cards will appear in the list.

How to get an API key

  1. Open Kaiten → Profile (the icon in the top right corner).
  2. Go to the API key section.
  3. Create a new key and copy it.

Terminology

In Kaiten the task container is a board, and a task is a card. The filters and the app's interface use these words.

Card type

If the portal administrator has set up their own card types in Kaiten (the "Card types" section — for example Bug, Feature), the app shows the type as a chip in the task list and in the card. The built-in Card type is not displayed in Kaiten — such cards have no chip. The type cannot be changed from the app.

Deleting a card

Deleting a card from the app sends it to the Kaiten trash — the card is not gone for good, and it can be restored in the Kaiten interface.

What is not supported

  • Auto-pause of an idle session in the tracker.
  • Ready-made filters.

Troubleshooting

  • The list is empty — check that the API key is valid and that your account has access to the boards.
  • Connection error — make sure the space address is reachable and starts with https://.
  • The key is correct, but connecting fails — according to the Kaiten pricing table the API is available on all plans, including the free one, so the plan is usually not the cause. We have seen two cases: a key that works in the browser is not accepted by the app, and a portal with an expired trial, where the "API access key" section disappears from the profile. Issue the key again and check the portal's state with its administrator; if that does not help, write to us.
  • Time goes as a comment or is not logged — the plan is not the cause: writing time to a card works on any paid Kaiten plan, including "Start", and without the "Time tracking" module. Check with the portal administrator whether a role is made mandatory in time entries (then the app writes the time as a comment) and whether your account has permission to log time.
