Tracking time on a task without GPS
What it is
The timer tracks the time you work on a task without recording a GPS route. It is handy for office work or when GPS is unavailable.

The timer is always available, whether or not GPS tracking is turned on in the settings.
Starting the timer
- Open the task card.
- Tap Timer (next to the Start button).
- The timer starts counting — a line with the time in
HH:MM:SSand a Stop button appears on the card.
The notification in the shade appears without a foreground GPS service — it is an ordinary notification with a chronometer and a Stop button.
Stopping the timer
- Tap Stop on the task card or in the notification.
- Confirm in the dialog — the time is written to Redmine as a time entry.
What happens to the time
When the timer stops, the time is sent to the tracker as a time entry (the same as for a GPS session). Without a network, the entry is queued and sent automatically once the connection is back.
If the time tracking module is turned off for the project in the tracker, the entry is silently skipped there — but the time is still saved in Taskloc (the Mileage section, the dashboard). See FAQ → Time is not written to the tracker.
The Routes section
Timer sessions are not shown in the Routes section (it only shows GPS tracks with coordinates).
