Location (precise)

When it is requested: the first time you start GPS tracking on a task.

Why: the app records your route during an active session.

If you deny it: GPS tracking is unavailable, but the timer without GPS still works.

Background location (ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION)

When it is requested: only if you explicitly turn on Nearby task reminders (off by default).

Why: the app compares your position with the sites pinned to tasks to remind you when you arrive or leave, and can stop recording automatically when you leave.

If you deny it: geofences and reminders are unavailable. GPS tracking of a task works without this permission.

How to grant it on Android 10+:

1. Go to Settings → Apps → Taskloc → Permissions → Location.
2. Choose Allow all the time (not "Allow only while using the app").

Notifications

When it is requested: the first time you start tracking.

Why: Android requires a persistent (foreground) notification for any background service that records GPS. The notification shows the active task and a Stop button.

If you deny it: GPS tracking will not start (Android does not allow a background service without a notification).

Network

No extra permissions — the network is needed to sync tasks and routes.

Battery optimization (critical for Xiaomi, Huawei, Honor, Samsung)

On many devices, manufacturers aggressively kill background processes. Without extra setup, GPS tracking may stop once the phone goes into your pocket.

How to turn off battery optimization for Taskloc

Stock Android:

1. Settings → Battery → Battery optimization.
2. Find Taskloc → choose Don't optimize.

Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO (MIUI / HyperOS):

1. Settings → Apps → Taskloc → Battery saver → No restrictions.
2. Also: Settings → Battery → Battery saver → make sure Taskloc is in the exceptions list.
3. In the recent apps view, tap and hold the Taskloc card and choose Lock (the padlock icon).

Huawei / Honor (EMUI / Magic UI):

1. Settings → Battery → App launch → Taskloc → turn off "Manage automatically", then turn on Run in background and Secondary launch manually.
2. Or, in the same menu, switch to Manage manually and turn on all three options.

Samsung (One UI):

1. Settings → Device care → Battery → Background usage limits.
2. Add Taskloc to the exceptions list.

If GPS still stops after this setup, check that the Location permission is set to Allow all the time.

Menu names differ between firmware versions; the items above follow the English system UI and may be worded slightly differently on your phone.
